To be an extra, stand-in or photo-double for a few days can be interesting and fun. Some actors don't understand the idea of how to be an extra. If you have never set foot on a major production before, I highly recommend trying to be an extra, photo-double, or better yet, a stand-in.
However, there are some things you need to know if you are considering whether or not to be an extra. To be an extra or stand-in, you can expect the day to run about 12 to 13 hours or maybe even longer. If you can't spare that much time, then this work is not for you. It's possible that the day will be shorter, but never count on it. If you leave early it is very doubtful that you will ever be called to do anything else that the extras casting director may do in the future. You need to be able to stay the whole day if you want to be an extra.
Always be on time to be an extra. In fact, it is a good idea to arrive about 15 minutes early to be an extra. You'll be waiting for them to set up shots, waiting for them to decide where they are going to use extras, or just waiting while they shoot scenes without extras. The majority of your time will be spent waiting to be an extra. Bring a book or something to occupy your time.
