Extra work, stand-ins or photo-doubles for a few days can be interesting and fun. Some actors don't understand the idea of how to handle extra work. If you have never set foot on a major production before, I highly recommend trying to get extra work, photo-double, or better yet, a stand-in.
However, there are some things you need to know if you are considering extra work. To be hired for extra work or stand-in, you can expect the day to run about 12 to 13 hours or maybe even longer. If you can't spare that much time, then this extra work is not for you. It's possible that the day will be shorter, but never count on it. If you leave early it is very doubtful that you will ever be called to do anything else that the extras casting director may do in the future. You need to be able to stay the whole day if you want to get extra work.
Always be on time for extra work. In fact, it is a good idea to arrive about 15 minutes early for extra work. You'll be waiting for them to set up shots, waiting for them to decide where they are going to use you, or just waiting while they shoot scenes without extras. The majority of your time will be spent waiting during extra work. Bring a book or something to occupy your time.
